Project Hope Animal Sanctuary Issues Urgent Appeal For Help Recent animal rescues strain shelter's resources Grenada, Miss.—In Defense of Animals (IDA) is asking for community and business support for our efforts to aid rescued animals at our Project Hope Sanctuary. Our recent rescue of numerous animals has taken a toll on the sanctuary. Most of these animals have been extremely ill. Project Hope Sanctuary has also recently rescued animals who require surgery for injuries and birth defects. "Luke is an adorable Great Dane juvenile who has been released to us after being held at a central Mississippi veterinary clinic since his abandonment in December," said Director Doll Stanley. Luke suffers from leg and hip defects that require amputation and additional medical treatment. Project Hope has also aided the Tupelo Lee Humane Society with the rescue of 202 dogs and cats surrendered by Ramon and Janet Barreto, the owner/operators of "Luv-A-Puppy", located in New Albany, Mississippi. The puppy mill was discovered when Union County officials removed eight of the Barreto's nine children for protective custody. Officials were shocked to find 181 filthy, matted dogs and puppies and 21 cats and kittens in wire feces-packed cages. In some areas the feces buildup beneath the cages was several feet deep. These emergencies have depleted Project Hopes emergency funds. Financial aid to restore the fund and aid Project Hope with medical needs of their rescued animals can be mailed to 52 County Road 241, Grenada, Mississippi 38901. |
